This online training session introduces ADS and HSDS users to Ingest, our new deposit system for archaeological and heritage data.

About This Session

This interactive training session will help you understand and confidently use the Ingest system. We'll begin with an overview of what Ingest is and how it fits into the ADS and HSDS ecosystem, followed by a live step-by-step demonstration. You'll then have the opportunity to try the system yourself with support from the facilitators.


What You'll Learn

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  1. Navigate and complete the basic login and registration process for the Ingest system
  2. Understand the strategic role of Ingest within the ADS and HSDS digital infrastructure (including its connections to UMA, Data Deposit, Archive interfaces, and Data Catalogue)
  3. Identify the information required at different stages of the Ingest system, including metadata requirements
  4. Begin using the Ingest system with your own datasets and deposits

Before You Attend

1. Register or log in via UMA Ingest is accessed through the User Management System (UMA). If you are an existing OASIS user, you can use your current login. New users will need to register before the session. 👉 Register / Log in via UMA

2. Prepare your materials We recommended that you use your own dataset during the hands-on practice to better replicate real-world conditions. However, if you do not have a dataset to hand a training dataset will be provided at the start of the session — no preparation needed.

3. Check your technical setup - A working Zoom connection (camera optional, microphone recommended) - A modern web browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended) - Access to the Ingest system via UMA

Your Trainer

Dr Nicky Garland is the Training and Communications Manager at the Archaeology Data Service (ADS). Nicky is an archaeologist with extensive experience of teaching and training in both developer-led archaeology and academia.

The ADS is the leading accredited repository in the UK for archaeology and historic environment data. With over 25 years of experience, the ADS supports research, learning, and teaching with free, high-quality, and dependable digital resources.
